Kristian Nammack
Kristian is the Founder and Managing Director of Matinecock Capital, which he launched in 2023 to steward sustainable and responsible investing across a broad range of stakeholders. Before that, he spent nearly two decades leading Hansa Impact, the firm he founded in 2004 and ran from Stockholm, London and New York. Hansa Impact conceived, guided and implemented new initiatives, restructurings and recalibrations for investors and their assets. In its later years it focused on developing impact investing collateral for NGOs, asset managers, asset owners and family offices.
Kristian began his career in the mid-1980s as a clerk on the trading desk at Salomon Brothers, a job he took to fill time before graduate studies in philosophy and a planned career as a professor. The energy of the capital markets and the creativity of his colleagues drew him in, and he stayed. In 1988 he joined Sanford Bernstein (now AllianceBernstein), drawn by its reputation as the best research firm in the industry. Over 11 years there he held many roles, and as the firm’s first person marketing outside the U.S., he built its international business, first in equity capital markets and then in institutional asset management, each with a global remit. In 1999 he moved to London as a Managing Director at Merrill Lynch Investment Managers (formerly Mercury Asset Management, now part of BlackRock). There he marketed all asset classes to institutional allocators worldwide, including sovereign wealth funds, pension funds, foundations, endowments and third-party resellers.
In 2002 Kristian moved to Stockholm and to the asset owner side. He led the external managers team at AP3, the $30 billion Third Swedish National Pension Fund. He then joined Skandia Liv as External Strategies Team Leader and a member of its Executive and Investment Committees. On the CIO team managing Skandia Liv’s $60 billion general account, he worked across all asset classes and asset-liability management, with a particular focus on alternatives, portable alpha and innovative risk budgeting, including a shift toward pairing index funds with high-alpha satellite strategies. Having worked on the sell side, as an asset manager and as an asset owner, Kristian understands how capital is raised, managed and allocated from every side of the table.
